Thursday 07/16/2026 Drill: Wildland Fire Evacuation

This planned event is ONLY A DRILL.

EVACUATION IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY.

On Thursday 07/16/2026, we will be holding an evacuation exercise impacting the SOUTH SIDE of Portola (south of the Feather River). This exercise will begin at 10am on that day.

Residents on the south side of town will receive alerts from the Plumas County Sheriff's Office if you are signed up for the Genasys alert system with instructions.

Again, participation by residents in this activity is completely voluntary. Also, no residents on the north end of town (north of the Feather River) will receive any notifications. There is no voluntary action asked of residents on the north side of town.

Purpose: The exercise is designed to validate evacuation procedures, emergency public notification systems (including the Genasys alert system), traffic management, interagency communications, and healthcare coordination, and to identify gaps that can be addressed prior to a real evacuation event.

See attached flyer for additional details.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the City Manager at 530-832-6800.
